Paula needs a food blog

And until she starts one, I’m posting pictures of her fabulous-looking split pea soup. She’ll have to make some for me, so that I can confirm it is also fabulous-tasting. Her email says it was “soooooo good”.

  1. Wowza. The pics looks pretty darn good – even if I do say so myself 🙂 Thanks Kathy! And the soup really was delicious. Found the recipe years ago in a LCBO magazine. It uses a smoked turkey leg but I used the leftover ham bone from my Christmas ham (threw it in the freezer). I simmered the ham bone in water with onion, carrot, parsley a bay leaf and few peppercorns for a few hours to get the flavor out of the ham. Then strained it – saved the ham broth and took the bits of ham off the bone. Then I sautéed the onions, celery, carrots – added the chopped collard greens and split peas – the added salt free chicken broth and used the ham broth instead of plain old water. Let it simmer for about an hour and a half adding more ham broth as needed. Highly recommend it. Pure comfort food. Link to the LCBO recipe below:
