From today’s Washington Post:

Justice officials reminded the FBI of the department’s position “that we don’t comment on an ongoing investigation. And we don’t take steps that will be viewed as influencing an election,” said one Justice Department official …

And yesterday’s:

James Comey is damaging our democracy

Gilmore Girls: Countdown is on

The Gilmore Girls 4-part Netflix miniseries is available November 25th!  (Birthday present for me.)  I’m having a girls’ night that weekend, where we are going to eat junk food (a la Lorelei and Rory – but with alcohol, not coffee) and binge watch.

Have you seen the trailer?

I was surprised at my reaction to the trailer.  Now that I’m addicted to This is Us, I’m kinda pissed that Jess is hanging out with Rory (what would Mandy Moore say?).  And my reaction when Logan appeared was way too positive (because he was basically a thoughtless spoiled rich dick) – probably because I loved Matt Czuchry so much as Cary Agos on The Good Wife.

And now I see that New York Times Watching is freaked out by the trailer!  Margaret Lyons is anxious it’s going to suck – too bright, jokes already dated.  Definitely not, Margaret.

Although it is weird that Kirk is at the Gilmore Friday night dinner table.

Stop and smell the flowers

Or, more accurately, pause and take a picture of the flowers as I rush to work in the morning.  I’m starting to seriously look into the science of gratitude.  We all need to take a breath and appreciate the beauty of everyday life.  That sounds very Ferris Bueller.

Speaking of movies … I have to agree with Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) in You’ve Got Mail — daisies are the friendliest flower!

Mushroom gnocchi

I had lunch with my friend Cindy on Friday.  Friday was a bleak, rainy, cold Fall day.  So we both fixated on the mushroom gnocchi:  housemade potato gnocchi, shimeji mushrooms & cream.  It was divine.  Blissful comfort food.

And Cindy, who is not a cook, was telling me that she just learned to make ricotta gnocchi, easy peasy.  (It was a team-building exercise at her company.  I’ll do a blog on what I think about team-building exercises another time.)

My new mission:  to try to replicate our lunch gnocchi, but with homemade ricotta gnocchi instead.

I’ve found one recipe that looks very good:

Ricotta Cheese Gnocchi with Mushroom Sauce

Keep you posted!

Does Letterfall! have a complaint centre?

I’m mildly-to-moderately addicted to Letterfall.  For those of you who are familiar with this free app, you share my pain.  For those of you who don’t, it’s a make-a-word game.  Random letters fall onto your screen, and you try to make words.  Words with rare letters (“V”, “Q”) get you more points.  Longer words get you more points.  I got “qualify” recently and nearly passed out.  I was smug for minutes.

Here’s my beef with Letterfall:  The app doesn’t recognize REAL words! Real words like “Monday”, “Motown”, ‘June”, “google”.  Come on, people.  OK, maybe “google” isn’t in the OED.  I’ll have to check.  But Monday is definitely a word (and my least favourite day).  June is definitely a month (a perfectly OK month).  And place names are words too!

Is there a chat board where I can vent?  Are others experiencing this same annoying problem?  Letterfall – update your dictionary!!

This is an experiment

Welcome to my new blog!

I’ve been wanting to start a blog that will encourage me to write about some of my favourite things — cooking, reading, writing, and running my business.  All part of my goal, as I approach that big birthday in just over a month, of trying to get healthy and find some balance in my life.  Trying to find some creativity in my life.

Stay tuned!
